About Leopard Lodge
- About Leopard Lodge
- Skeerpoort Northwest Province, Hartbeespoort, South Africa
- High up on the solid rock face of the Magaliesberg Mountains, a gorge rips straight into the rock. The gorge is softened only by a blanket of shrubs and trees which have grown over millennia, watered by the purest, cleanest water imaginable. It is only when one drives in the gate of Leopard Lodge that you realise what has been left behind. The mystique of the place is tangible. Following a designated trail higher and higher, under a thick canopy of trees, a strong feeling of peace will overwhelm you. Leopard Lodge is a haven for not only our bashful brides but for one and all.The lodge has a 4 star grading and the main building houses the reception rooms, restaurant, bar, conference rooms and large verandah. The lodge has a peaceful atmosphere and yet, situated near Hartbeespoort, it’s just a short 55km drive from the hustle and bustle of Sandton and 60km from Pretoria.Whether darkness finds you swapping a tale or two around the boma fire, sipping port indoors or lying in bed listening to the “orchestra of sounds” of the night, you cannot fail to be enchanted by Leopard Lodge, with our olde world hospitality and charm you can be assured an unforgettable experience.

Leopard Lodge supports INTERNATIONAL VULTURE AWARENESS DAY
INTERNATIONAL VULTURE AWARENESS DAY (IVAD) – 2011
The first Saturday of September each year is observed as International Vulture Awareness Day by the Birds of Prey Programme of the Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT-BoPP), (VulPro) The Vulture Programme of the Rhino & Lion Wildlife Conservation NPO and BirdLife South Africa together with partners and associates. These include provincial conservation bodies and several other NGOs involved in vulture research and conservation. The purpose of this day is to create awareness of the continued plight of all vulture species and to highlight the work done by conservationists to monitor populations and implement effective measures to conserve these birds and their habitats. In certain key areas of South Africa , vulture conservationists are arranging vulture counts at colonies and feeding sites. A network of land-owners and conservationists will be visiting breeding- and supplementary feeding sites to do a count of the species and number of birds that they encounter and to feed that back to us as a “National Count”. An important part of the message that we would like to convey is that there are several initiatives under way to address the threats that the birds face and that something is being done to protect them throughout Africa and the rest of the world.
The first International Vulture Awareness Day (IVAD09) was celebrated in September 2009 with participants from no less than 152 partner organisations from 45 countries, representing six continents.
This year International Vulture Awareness Day will take place on 3rd September 2011 and is dedicated to the splendour of vultures across the globe and the critically important services they provide in our environment.
The Endangered Wildlife Trust’s Birds of Prey Programme in collaboration with VulPro and BirdLife South Africa will be hosting a fun-filled family day at the VulPro’s rehabilitation centre near Hartbeespoort Dam. Activities will include vulture educational talks, tours around the vulture enclosures, vulture feedings, a visit to a nearby vulture restaurant and lots of activities for the kids. Our guests will also have the pleasure of meeting Cody, our Mazda Wildlife Fund vulture. A number of rehabilitation centers and vulture restaurants in the country will also host special events on the day. Bring your family, friends and picnic baskets and join in on the fun. The Programme of the day will include something for everyone.

Happy Birthday Madiba!!!
"I have walked that long road to freedom. I have tried not to falter; I have made missteps along the way. But I have discovered the secret that after climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb. I have taken a moment here to rest, to steal a view of the glorious vista that surrounds me, to look back on the distance I have come. But I can only rest for a moment, for with freedom come responsibilities, and I dare not linger, for my long walk is not ended."
